Unsafe condoms sold in RP?

- Sheila Crisostomo -

MANILA, Philippines - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating if unsanitary condoms from China are being sold in the Philippines.

FDA director general Nazarita Tacandong said the agency will consult with manufacturers and distributors of condoms in the country to determine if condoms manufactured in a plant in Hunan province owned by a certain Li Anping have reached the Philippine market.

Chinese authorities padlocked the factory on Monday after finding out that the condoms were packed without proper sterilization.

The condoms may have been sold all over China.

The FDA is checking if the condoms are registered for distribution in the Philippines.

Tacandong said if the condoms were not registered, the agency will inspect stores at random to make sure the unsafe product has not been smuggled into the country.
