Watch out for Leonid meteor showers tomorrow

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

Astronomy enthusiasts in the country can watch out for the famous Leonid meteor showers tomorrow.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Leonid has been the most spectacular meteor shower every year due to its high rate of meteors, exceeding 60 per hour.

Pagasa Director Prisco Nilo said, “Leonids is one of the more prolific meteor showers of the year and its radiant is in the constellation Leo.”

A radiant is a point in space from which a meteor shower appears to originate.

Nilo said the meteor showers could be best viewed at 3 a.m.

“While this year’s shower may not be as spectacular as it had been in previous years, observers may still see fiery streaks of at least 15 to 20 meteors per hour that will surely fascinate them,” Nilo said.
