MANILA, Philippines — Public schools’ celebration of Pride Month is “strictly voluntary,” the Department of Education (DepEd) clarified yesterday.

Some parents have raised concerns over festivities celebrating minorities, with photos spreading hateful messages on social media.

“There is no penalty, whatsoever, that was imposed should a learner refuse to participate in Pride Month activities,” the DepEd pointed out.

“The DepEd will continue to implement policies that advance inclusion, prevent discrimination and support the holistic wellbeing of every member of the DepEd community,” the agency said.
