MANILA, Philippines — The Bureaus of Customs and Immigration have conducted a joint training to enhance coordination on border control operations.

During the Aug. 24 to 28 training at the Heritage Hotel Manila, Customs and immigration personnel studied laws, operational procedures, risk management mechanisms and coordination protocols.

Among the key outcomes of the training was the proposed joint standard operating procedure, which establishes an enhanced framework for joint border operations, according to Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno.

“The proposed SOP sets out specific protocols for intelligence sharing, coordinated screening, inter-agency handover and coordinated secondary inspection, among other measures designed to improve operational efficiency and information exchange between the two agencies,” Nepomuceno said.
