Thousands join run for West Philippine Sea

Helen Flores - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Around 4,000 Filipinos participated in the “Run for the West Philippine Sea” at the Quezon Memorial Circle yesterday.

The event aims to raise public awareness and rally national solidarity to protect the country’s maritime patrimony.

Cabinet Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine Navy Rear Admiral Karl Decapia joined the event.

Organized by the Inner Wheel Club of Holy Spirit New Generation-District 378 in partnership with the Philippine Navy, the event highlighted the importance of the West Philippine Sea to the country’s food security and economy.

In his message, Abalos said the event also advocates for the protection of the livelihood of Filipino fisherfolk, the future of coastal communities and the dignity of the nation.

Organizers hope to bring the advocacy run to other provinces and cities nationwide.
