Torre pays fines over traffic violations

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila Development Authority general manager Nicolas Torre III has paid a fine of P14,000 over several traffic violations, the Land Transportation Office announced.
LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said the fines were for violations on the use of the EDSA busway, tampering of plates, reckless driving of Torres’ driver and the use of blinkers.
“Let’s not commit (these violations) because these are serious matters especially to us in the government,” Lacanilao told ABS-CBN News.
He noted that Torre has voluntarily surrendered the vehicle that will remain under LTO custody while investigation is ongoing.
Lacanilao said only selected government officials are allowed under the law to use blinkers, which include the president, vice president, Senate president, House speaker, law enforcement agencies and ambulances.
Torre earlier apologized for committing the violations.
