Police nab forest ranger, 3 others

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga, Philippines — Four armed men, including a forest ranger, were wounded in an encounter with police units in Arayat, Pampanga on Saturday.
Col. Ricardo David, Pampanga police chief, said the suspects, among them a rebel returnee identified only as Ka Arlet, were reported for indiscriminate discharge of firearms in Barangay San Juan Baño.
David said the four fired at the approaching members of the Pampanga provincial intelligence unit, 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and a SWAT team.
Seized from them were a .45-caliber pistol, M16 rifle, 12-gauge shotgun, .38-caliber revolver, carbine rifle and a hand grenade.
Investigators are subjecting the weapons to forensic examination to determine if these were previously used in criminal activities.
