Rocket debris warning issued in Northern Luzon
MANILA, Philippines — China is expected to launch a rocket before dawn today, with debris projected to fall in the waters off Northern Luzon, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
The PCG said that debris from the Long March 7A rocket, set to take off from Wenchang, Hainan between 12:08 and 1:12 a.m., might fall into the waters off Burgos, Ilocos Norte and Dalupiri Island, Cagayan.
“Fishermen, small vessel operators and mariners have been advised to avoid sailing in areas identified as drop zones during the launch window, and to watch out for any floating or suspicious objects at sea,” the PCG said.
The public has been warned against approaching or retrieving any suspected rocket debris due to possible hazardous materials.
“Any sighting of floating objects or debris should be immediately reported to the nearest PCG station or local authorities for proper assessment and handling,” the PCG said.
