Marcos sends veggies to BuCor

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has received 150 sacks of upland vegetables, from the 20-ton purchase President Marcos made in Benguet on Friday.
According to BuCor, the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa got 126 sacks of vegetables, while the Correctional Institute for Women accepted 24 sacks.
The supply, donated by the Office of the President, included bitter gourd, broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, squash, potato, cabbage, eggplant, tomato and white onion.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu-Laurel Jr. said other portions of the President’s purchases would be transported to poor communities in Navotas, Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, Pasay and Quezon City; select prisons and orphanages; and the social welfare department’s Walang Gutom kitchen.
Marcos bought the vegetable supply as a way of providing assistance to farmers in Benguet who are grappling with oversupply due to a weak demand.
