MANILA, Philippines — Light Rail Manila Corp. limited LRT-1 operations yesterday morning, with the LRMC saying a technical glitch cut train services for a few hours.

“The disruption was caused by a catenary problem, which unfortunately resulted in trains not running between EDSA and United Nations segments,” LRMC said in a Viber message.

At 10:07 a.m., the LRT-1 management said trains were running only between Dr. Santos and Baclaran stations, and between Fernando Poe Jr. and Central Terminal stations.

The Department of Transportation deployed buses under the “Libreng Sakay” program to assist stranded passengers at the affected stations.

LRT-1 resumed full operations at 2:13 p.m. after the engineering team resolved the technical problem at the Vito Cruz station.

Meanwhile, solo parents will be granted free rides in the Metro Rail Transit 3 and LRT-2 on Saturday, in observance of National Solo Parents’ Day.

In separate advisories, both rail lines announced that free rides would be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“This initiative is in accordance with Republic Act 11861, or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act,” MRT-3 said. “It aims to recognize and support the significant role of solo parents in society.”
