Kanlaon Volcano logs 24 ash emissions

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island continues to exhibit sustained unrest, with 24 ash emission events recorded in the first 13 days of April.
Citing a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology report, the Office of Civil Defense-Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR) said the multiple ash emissions, lasting from 47 to 129 minutes on April 12, are indicative of a shallow magmatic-phreatic activity.
The OCD-NIR advised the public to take precautions, as ashfalls are likely to happen southwest and southeast of the volcano.
Alert Level 2 remains in place. Entry into the four-kilometer danger zone is strictly prohibited.
