NCRPO: Ordinance violators decreasing

MANILA, Philippines — With 48,257 people rounded up under the “Safer Cities” initiative, the National Capital Region Police Office is noticing a decline in the number of violators of local ordinances, the NCRPO said.
“I noticed that while we do it every day, our apprehensions are decreasing,” NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin told dzRH yesterday.
Aberin said roving police are accompanied by personnel from the barangay and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Apprehended minors will have their identities checked by the barangay and turned over to their parents, he added.
“If the violation is light, minors will be warned, but those who commit violations five or six times already will be issued a ticket and fined,” Aberin said.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said targeting minor violations has become a central police strategy in keeping Metro Manila streets safer for every community.
“With the more visible presence of our personnel on the ground, we are sending a strong message of our active role in crime prevention and instilling discipline,” he said in a statement.
