P5 million smuggled cigarettes seized in Mandaue

Authorities confiscated a total of 2,031 reams of smuggled cigarettes of various brands, with an estimated street value of ?5.28 million, along with buy-bust money amounting to ?15,000.

MANILA, Philippines — Police seized more than 2,000 reams of smuggled cigarettes worth over P5 million during a sting in Mandaue City over the weekend.
Investigators said the 52-year-old suspect negotiated with police agents for the sale of the contraband.
Acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the operation showed the government’s resolve against smuggling.
