MANILA, Philippines — New Year celebrations in Metro Manila have been peaceful, according to the National Capital Region Police Office.

NCRPO spokesperson Maj. Hazel Asilo said increased police visibility along major roads and areas of convergence have been effective.

No police personnel have been arrested for indiscriminate firing, Asilo said.

The Southern Police District reported that New Year countdown events within its jurisdiction were peaceful.

Up to 2,177 police officers were deployed in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, Ayala Avenue in Makati and SM Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay.

Police estimated 105,000 revelers at the MOA countdown, 82,000 in BGC and 32,000 in Ayala.
