Eastern Visayas workers get pay hike

MANILA, Philippines — Minimum wage earners in Eastern Visayas are getting an increase in their daily take-home pay, according to the National Wages and Productivity Commission.
The NWPC said the minimum wage rates in the region would range from P422 to P452 starting Dec. 8.
“The increase brings the new minimum wage rate in Eastern Visayas to P422 for workers in the agriculture, cottage and handicraft, and service or retail establishments employing 10 workers and below. Workers in the non-agriculture and service or retail establishment employing 11 workers and above will get P452,” the NWPC said.
The latest adjustment reflects a P17-per-day increase to the previous rates of P405 and P435 for the two sectors, respectively.
By June 1, 2026, workers in the agriculture, cottage and handicraft and service or retail establishments with 10 workers and below will get an additional P18 hike, bringing their minimum wage rate to P440.
Workers in the non-agriculture and service or retail establishment employing 11 workers and above will get an P18 increase, raising their rates to P470 per day.
Domestic workers in the region will also get a P400 increase, bringing their take-home pay to P6,400 from the current P6,000.
House minority leader and 4Ps party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan welcomed the pay increases, saying it will bring relief to private sector workers struggling with rising costs.
“The increase gives more meaning to the constitutional right of workers to a living wage,” Libanan said.
