8 cops nabbed for rape, robbery

MANILA, Philippines — Eight police officers assigned with the Police Drug Enforcement Group or PDEG were arrested for the alleged rape of a Grade 9 student in Bacoor City on Saturday.
The girl complained that the officers – a lieutenant, a master sergeant, three corporals and three patrolmen – took her cellphone after the abuse.
Members of the Bacoor police station, police regional intelligence division and regional mobile force battalion arrested the eight officers inside the PDEG-4A office at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City, Laguna yesterday.
The raiding team is also looking for six other officers – four patrolmen and two corporals – who reportedly participated in the crime.
Brig. Gen. Elmer Ragay, PDEG director, relieved the suspects from their posts and initiated the filing of administrative complaints, aside from the criminal cases for violation of Republic Act 8353 or the anti-rape law and robbery in band before the prosecutor’s office.
