14,038 dengue cases logged in October

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 14,038 dengue cases were logged across the country last month, according to the Department of Health.
Data from the DOH showed that the number of cases, which was recorded from Oct. 12 to 25, decreased by eight percent from the 15,182 infections reported from Sept. 28 to Oct. 11.
Health officials said they were expecting the cases to increase a week after typhoons Tino and Uwan devastated several areas in the country.
Tino struck the country on Nov. 4 while Super Typhoon Uwan came four days later, both spawned massive flooding in several provinces.
“After the typhoons, opened containers and vessels were possibly filled with stagnant water, which can serve as breeding sites for dengue-carrying mosquito Aedes aegypti,” the DOH said.
The public has been reminded to continue practicing the “4Ts” in eliminating mosquitoes.
“Practice taob or flipping, taktak or shaking, tuyo or drying and takip or covering all containers that may serve as potential mosquito breeding sites,” the DOH said.
People have been reminded to seek medical help once they manifest symptoms of the disease such as fever with rashes, muscle and eye pains, dizziness and vomiting.
