MANILA, Philippines — Some airports under “Area V” in the Bicol region have suspended their operations due to Super Typhoon "Uwan" (international name: Fung-Wong).

In an advisory on Sunday, November 9, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the suspension took effect via a Notice to Airmen starting at 4 a.m. on the same day.

It is initially scheduled to remain in force until 8 p.m., according to CAAP.

“This suspension may be extended depending on prevailing weather conditions and on-site safety assessments,” CAAP said.

The following airports have suspended their operations:

  • Bicol International Airport (BIA), Daraga, Albay
  • Naga Airport, Camarines Sur
  • Virac Airport, Catanduanes
  • Masbate Airport, Masbate
  • Daet Airport, Camarines Norte
  • Bulan Airport, Sorsogon
  • Bacon Airport, Sorsogon

CAAP advised all affected passengers to coordinate directly with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight cancellations, rebooking options and other travel concerns.

Airport management is currently providing meals and assistance to stranded passengers and will continue to accommodate them until normal and safe operations can resume.

The agency also said that all other CAAP-operated airports outside of Area V remain fully operational as of writing.

Based on PAGASA's 8 a.m. weather bulletin, Uwan was estimated to be 95 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.
