Move It logs most motorcycle taxi crashes – HPG
MANILA, Philippines — Move It recorded the highest number of motorcycle taxi crashes last year, outpacing rival hailing services, according to data presented by the police Highway Patrol Group (HPG) to the House committee on transportation.
HPG figures showed that Move It accounted for 476 accidents, or 35.2 percent of motorcycle taxi-related mishaps from 2024 to 2025.
Grab followed with 293 cases (21 percent), Joyride with 240 (17.7 percent), Angkas with 236 and Lalamove with 208.
Up to 31,258 vehicular crashes were recorded in 2024, up 27.6 percent from 24,495 the previous year. While motorcycle taxis logged only 1,353 accidents or 0.04 percent of the total number, lawmakers said the surge reflects a growing road safety concern.
House transportation panel chairman Rep. Brian Llamanzares sought a review of the Land Transportation Office’s licensing process, saying a mandatory safety program for new and renewing motorcycle drivers was necessary.
He raised concerns that licensing rules may be either too lax or poorly enforced.
The proposed training will cover defensive driving, hazard awareness and road courtesy, with periodic revalidation for ride-hailing and delivery riders.
According to HPG, 87 percent of motorcycle crashes stemmed from reckless behavior, including speeding, improper overtaking, distracted riding and drunk driving.
Road safety advocates pointed to Angkas’ “no training, no hire” policy, which has delivered a 99.997-percent safety record verified by third-party audits, as proof that structured training works.
