BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have been gradually declining from the peak in July this year, provincial health chief Ma. Girlie Pinongan said.

Despite the downward trend, Pinongan urged residents to continue being vigilant and maintain cleanliness of surroundings as the rainy season continues.

She attributed the decline to the public awareness campaign on avoiding dengue infection and early detection.

From January to Aug. 30 this year, the Provincial Health Office recorded 4,296 dengue cases, including nine deaths.
