P749 million shabu seized at MICP

MANILA, Philippines — An interdiction operation led to the seizure of 110 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu valued at P749 million at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) yesterday.
The illegal drugs, concealed in four balikbayan boxes, were found at the MICP’s container facility station, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
The balikbayan boxes were declared as cereals, snack packs and instant noodles from the US. But instead of food, law enforcers found 106 sealed plastic packs filled with shabu.
The boxes were packed in multiple layers to avoid detection by the authorities.
“This interdiction is the result of constant vigilance and close coordination among our agencies,” PDEA chief Isagani Nerez said.
