Reelected Benguet lawmaker’s proclamation OK’d
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has allowed the proclamation of reelected Benguet Rep. Eric Go Yap.
The Comelec dismissed a petition questioning Yap’s citizenship for lack of evidence.
The petition intended to cancel Yap’s certificate of candidacy for the recent May 12 elections.
Yap has yet to comment on the poll body’s ruling. He said he would wait for the petitioner to question the Comelec decision.
Despite winning by a landslide, Yap’s proclamation was stalled due to several disqualification cases filed against him.
Meanwhile, in La Union, outgoing Gov. Raphaella Veronica Ortega-David yesterday turned over her post to her grandfather, Mario Eduardo Ortega.
Ortega-David committed to support her grandfather’s leadership at the capitol.
The elder Ortega defeated his granddaughter by a wide margin during the midterm elections. He accepted her expression of support and assured her that he would continue the programs and projects she initiated.
