Malapitan wins Caloocan mayor; Erice makes House comeback

MANILA, Philippines — Incumbent Caloocan City Mayor Along Malapitan secured his second term as the city’s chief executive after the Commission on Elections (Comeled) Board of Canvassers officially proclaimed him on Tuesday, May 13.

Malapitan garnered around 300,000 votes, beating his leading rival former senator Antonio Trillanes IV. His running mate, the incumbent Vice Mayor Karina Teh, was also able to defend her spot.

The Board of Canvassers also confirmed the win of Malapitan’s father, Rep. Oca Malapitan (1st District, Caloocan City), who successfully retained his seat in the 20th Congress.

Meanwhile, former lawmaker and Liberal Party-backed Egay Erice was also proclaimed. He will return to the House of Representatives after winning the seat for the second legislative district of Caloocan City. Erice previously served in the House from 2001 to 2004, and again from 2013 to 2022.

In 2022, he ran for mayor of Caloocan City but lost to then-representative Along Malapitan.

Erice unseated incumbent Rep. Mitch Cajayon-Uy.

For the 2025 midterm polls, Comelec earlier disqualified him for allegedly spreading false information about Miru System, the poll body’s supplier for election technology.

However, the Supreme Court issued a temporary restraining order on the disqualification case, allowing Erice to run and win the election under the same system being challenged.

The third congressional district was secured by incumbent Rep. Dean Asistio.
