3 die as truck rams trike in Dipolog

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Three people, including two minors, died after a truck loaded with motorcycles hit the victims’ tricycle in Dipolog City on Wednesday morning.

Ronnie Merafuentes, 32, his son and nephew were declared dead on arrival in a hospital, where another relative was taken for treatment of injuries.

Merafuentes was driving his son and nephews to school when the truck hit them in Barangay Cogon, according to Col. Edwin Verzon, Dipolog City police chief.

The truck, driven by Rolly John Balalilhe, was on its way to deliver motorcycles to local shops.

Balalilhe surrendered to responding police officers.
