Central Luzon logs lower crime rate in 2024

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga, Philippines — The crime rate in Central Luzon was lower in 2024 compared to the previous year.

Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, Central Luzon police director, said there were 37,514 crime incidents recorded in the region from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024.

The figure is 4.31 percent lower than the 39,203 incidents recorded during the same period in 2023.

The 2024 peace and order index showed 3,494 incidents of theft, physical injury, robbery, rape, murder, carjacking and homicide.

The figure is lower than the 3,616 index crimes recorded in 2023.

For non-index crimes or violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Violence Against Women and Children Act, the Central Luzon police recorded 12,727 incidents last year and 12,931 in 2023.

For offenses involving traffic violations, the regional police recorded 21,293 incidents last year, which is 1,363 lower than the 22,656 reported in 2023, Maranan said.
