2 firms bag Manila’s P842.7 million garbage collection deal
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government has awarded contracts for garbage collection and disposal worth P842.7 million to two companies, with the expectation that they will perform better than the previous contractor.
The local government chose Phil. Ecology Systems Corp. (PhilEco) and MetroWaste Solid Waste Management Corp. as the new garbage collection and disposal contractors of the city hall.
MetroWaste won the bid of P412,931,706.32 for garbage collection in Districts 1, 2 and 3. PhilEco bidded P429,786,061.68 for garbage collection and disposal in Districts 4, 5 and 6, according to Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna.
Lacuna said she expects the two waste management companies to “do a much better job” than the previous contractor, Leonel Waste Management Corp., which was contracted by the administration of former mayor Isko Moreno.
Lacuna ordered barangay officials to “ensure the cooperation of residents on waste segregation, collection schedules and waste management programs in the city.”
