MANILA, Philippines — Vice Gov. Athena Bryana Tolentino is now governor of Cavite following the appointment by President Marcos of Jonvic Remulla as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Tolentino took her oath before a judge in Tagaytay City yesterday. She won the vice gubernatorial race during the 2022 general elections and assumed office on June 30 of the same year. She was councilor of Tagaytay from 2019 to 2022.

Tolentino, 26, is one of the youngest public servants in the country and the first female governor and vice governor of Cavite.

She is a daughter of Philippine Olympic Committee chairman and Tagaytay Mayor Abraham Tolentino, and niece of Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino.

Tolentino vowed to continue the programs and projects of Remulla, who replaced former DILG secretary Benhur Abalos.

Abalos has filed his certificate of candidacy for the Senate in the 2025 midterm elections.
