MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday warned the public against the purchase and consumption of an unregistered brand of hotdog being sold in the market.

In an advisory, the FDA said the public must avoid buying and consuming the unregistered “Mekeni Picnic Classic Cheesy Hotdog.”

“The FDA verified through online monitoring or post-marketing surveillance that the above-mentioned food product is not registered and no corresponding Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) has been issued,” the FDA said.

It said consumption of such products may have adverse health effects.

“Since these unregistered food products have not gone through the evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure their quality and safety,” the FDA said.

The agency warned all concerned establishments against distributing, advertising or selling such food products until CPRs are issued, or else regulatory actions and sanctions would be pursued.

“Report any sale or distribution of unregistered food supplements and food products via email at [email protected],” the FDA said.?

The FDA requested all law enforcement agencies and local government units to ensure that these food products are not sold or made available in the market in their areas of jurisdiction.
