Quake jolts Davao Occidental

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.9 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental on Saturday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 9:08 p.m. and its epicenter was located 374 kilometers south of Sarangani town. It was tectonic in origin.

State seismologists said the quake was not expected to cause damage to property, but it may generate aftershocks.

A day before, a magnitude 4.6 temblor also struck the province, Phivolcs said.

The epicenter of the quake was located 86 kilometers south of Sarangani Island.
