Philippine logs 773 cholera cases

MANILA, Philippines — Up to 773 cholera cases were recorded in the first quarter of this year, according to the Department of Health.

DOH data showed the figure was recorded as of March 11 and was 38 percent lower compared to the same period last year with 1,248 cases.

Among regions, Eastern Visayas recorded the most number of cases with 702 followed by Bicol with 39 and the Cordilleras with eight.

Four cases each were recorded in Northern Mindanao and Caraga, while Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) had two cases each.

Data from the DOH’s epidemiology bureau showed one fatality so far this year and 13 in 2023.
