MANILA, Philippines — Investigators may have leads on the identity of the man who gunned down an official of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on May 24, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported yesterday.

QCPD personnel found at the crime scene a photocopy of the official receipt and certificate of registration of the motorcycle that may have been used by the assailant of LTO registration division chief Mercedita Gutierrez.

Investigators also found two fired bullet casings and two deformed fired bullets from a .45-caliber pistol at the crime scene.

The document was placed inside a black helmet bag that “was accidentally dropped by the suspect,” according to the QCPD.

Police have yet to verify the identity of the motorcycle’s owner.

In an interview over radio dzBB on May 25, QCPD spokesperson Capt. Febie Madrid said the special investigating task group vowed to continue to gather more information and evidence that would lead to the arrest of the assailant.

Gutierrez, driving a van, was ambushed by the motorcycle-riding assailant at the corner of K-8th street and Kamias Road in Barangay Pinyahan on the night of May 24.

She was declared dead at the East Avenue Medical Center due to gunshot wounds to the head.

The suspect, last seen wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and a helmet, drove off toward V. Luna Avenue after he shot Gutierrez.
