MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has relieved two police officers allegedly caught having sex in a parking lot of a mall, which resulted in a shootout in Laguna on April 25.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo yesterday said that while the matter was deemed personal, the PNP pursued appropriate actions against the officers involved.

“Both officers have been relieved of their duties and are facing criminal charges, including attempted homicide,” Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame.

She said the other parties implicated in the incident have also been relieved and charged accordingly.

Fajardo said the officers are facing multiple charges, including potential administrative penalties in addition to criminal proceedings.

The officers are under restrictive custody pending further investigation, she said.

“The duration of this custody will be determined by the Calabarzon police director, who holds disciplinary authority over them,” she said.

Fajardo said one of the officers is currently under hospital arrest, while efforts are underway to secure custody of another, who attempted to evade authorities by transferring to a different assignment.

The affair was discovered when the spouses of the officers, who are also members of the police force, allegedly saw them engaged in sexual activity inside a sport utility vehicle (SUV).

The husband of the alleged cheating policewoman shot the tires of the vehicle.

The wife shot her cheating husband in the leg and shoulder.

A manhunt was launched for the policewoman, who fled to Batangas.
