MANILA, Philippines — Domestic helpers in Central Visayas will be getting a salary increase.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board issued a wage order increasing the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers by P500 in all areas in the region.

This will bring the monthly wage rate to P6,000 in chartered cities and first-class municipalities and P5,000 in other towns.

The wage order was affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission on April 22.

It shall take effect on May 11 or 15 days after it was published on April 25.

The wage board said the increase considered the results of a survey, public hearings, the needs of domestic workers and their families, capacity to pay of employers and existing socio-economic conditions in the region.

Public hearings were conducted on April 7 in Minglanilla, Cebu and wage deliberations on April 18.

At least 107,931 domestic workers in Central Visayas are expected to benefit from the salary increase, 14 percent or 15,099 of them on live-in arrangements.
The last wage order for domestic workers in the region became effective on June 14, 2022.

Domestic workers in all other regions in the country had earlier received pay increases without formal petitions, according to the labor department.
