Worker hurt by 4.2 tons of falling metal rods .

MANILA, Philippines — A construction worker was injured after 4.2 tons of metal rods fell from a crane at a construction site in Binondo, Manila yesterday morning.

Ali Bryan Uy Halipa, 33, was brought to the Manila Medical Center after sustaining wounds and cuts in different parts of his body, according to a report from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The metal rods fell to the ground when the cable of the crane snapped at the construction site of a 64-floor condominium building at the corner of Aguilar and Tronqued streets at past 6 a.m., the Manila Police District Station 11 reported.

T-One China Construction Third Bureau Corp. was in charge of the construction, police noted.

The metal rods hit a white pickup truck, two motorcycles and a bicycle, said Barangay 294 captain Winsen Von Yu.

The rods almost flattened the vehicle and also produced a plume of dust that reached nearby Recto Avenue, Yu said.

It also damaged part of a neighboring building, he added.

Yu ordered the construction suspended to ensure the safety of constituents.

He has yet to find out if the contractor of the construction project would shoulder the expenses for the damage and injuries caused by the incident.
