MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) would deploy over 11,300 police officers in Metro Manila as early as March 25 to ensure public safety during the Holy Week and the rest of summer, an official said yesterday.

NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said comprehensive measures would be implemented to address the convergence of the Holy Week observance and the onset of the summer vacation.

The NCRPO has collaborated with local government units, other law enforcement agencies and private stakeholders to establish a comprehensive security framework, he added.

Traffic management strategies will be in effect in anticipation of congestion on roads and terminal hubs.

Police assistance desks will also be deployed across the regions to provide support and assistance for travelers.

“We are dedicated to creating a secure environment during the Holy Week and summer vacation, and we urge everyone to be partners in ensuring a peaceful and enjoyable season,” Nartatez said in a statement.

Rail line maintenance

Meanwhile, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) are scheduled to shut down to undergo maintenance from March 28 to 31, according to separate advisories.

The two rail lines said the closure would enable their personnel to perform maintenance works during the Holy Week.

Train trips of the MRT-3 and LRT-2 will resume on April 1.
