MANILA, Philippines — Domestic workers in Calabarzon will get an increase in their monthly salary.

In an order issued on Jan. 22, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board granted an increase of P1,000 in the salary of domestic workers in the region, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced yesterday.

This will increase the minimum monthly salary of domestic workers in cities and first class municipalities in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon to P6,000 and P5,000 in other towns.

The DOLE said 233,909 domestic workers in the region, 28 percent or 65,408 of them on live-in arrangement, will benefit from the pay increase.

The National Wages and Productivity Commission affirmed the wage order on Jan. 31.

The wage order was published yesterday, and shall take effect on Feb. 19 or 15 days after its publication.

“The increase considered the results of consultations and public hearings as well as the needs of domestic workers and their families, the employer’s capacity to pay and existing socioeconomic conditions in the region,” the DOLE said.

It said the wage board would conduct an information campaign to ensure compliance with the wage order.

The last wage order for domestic workers in Calabarzon was issued on June 15, 2022. It was implemented on July 16 in the same year.
