MANILA, Philippines — Crime incidence in the country declined by at least 26 percent, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported yesterday.

Data from the PNP showed there were 2,301 cases of eight focus crimes from Jan. 1 to 30.

The figure is lower compared to 3,223 incidents in the same period in 2023, a decline of 26.81 percent.

The focus crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.

“This serves as an inspiration for the PNP, that the crime volume continues to drop,” Col. Jean Fajardo, the PNP’s chief publicist, said in a news briefing.

She also lauded the public for their cooperation, which she said contributed to the improving peace and order situation in the country.
