Parañaque approves P12.4 billion budget for 2024

MANILA, Philippines —  The city council of Parañaque has approved a P12.4-billion budget for next year, Mayor Eric Olivarez announced on Wednesday.

According to Olivarez, the approved budget is 10 percent higher than the P11.3 billion in 2023.

“The slight increase in the city budget reflects the continued commitment of the local government to fulfill our mission to improve the overall well-being and quality of life of our constituents,” he said.

“We will continue to practice effective and efficient tax collection, prudent spending of the city budget and transparency as we believe that these are the core elements of good governance,” Olivarez added.

The bulk of the budget, which amounts to P11.2 billion, will be allocated for health and social services, disaster preparedness, salaries and wages, maintenance and other operating expenditures.

The remaining budget will be used for research, maintenance and operation of public schools and construction of school buildings.

Olivarez said the local government would continue prioritizing the needs of the residents, particularly in education, health and the environment.

Among the key projects of the local government are the construction of a city coliseum, a new library, training and assessment centers, as well as an increase in financial assistance for seniors citizens and college students.
