Mother, daughter, kin drown in Misamis Oriental beach outing

COTABATO CITY —  Three beachgoers, a 44-year-old mother, her daughter and an adolescent relative, got drowned in the sea at a beachfront resort in Barangay Barra in Opol, Misamis Oriental on Sunday.

In separate reports dispatched Tuesday, the Opol Municipal Police Station and the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office identified the fatalities as Charlene Delante, her 19-year-old daughter Nica, and their relative, Ashley Kilnet, who is a minor.

Their companions had told probers that Delante could have drowned first and, subsequently, her daughter Nica and Kilnet also both met the same fate when they tried to rescue her despite not knowing how to swim.

The Opol MPS reported that only after companions of the victims noticed that the three of them were nowhere around their rented cottage that they started searching for them and found out that all got drowned.

The three victims and their companions traveled all the way from the distant Talakag town in Bukidnon for their outing in Barangay Barra in Opol that turned tragic.

Emergency responders from the Opol local government unit and policemen tried but failed to revive the victims via first aid resuscitation procedures.
