Oil spill spotted off Palawan

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — An oil spill was spotted in the waters off the port of Puerto Princesa in Palawan on Saturday, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

The PCG Station-Central Palawan alerted its Marine Environment Protection Force, which installed spill booms and absorbent pads in the area to contain the spill.

Porter Ranillo Fernandez spotted the spill at around 8:45 a.m. and immediately reported it to the PCG.

A coast guard response team collected two drums of oil from the affected area.

The PCG said it would get oil samples from two ships docked at the port and from a roll-on roll-off vessel that departed a few hours before the incident was discovered, to determine the source of the spill.
