BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong is pushing for the adoption of a single ticketing system for traffic violations similar to a scheme being piloted in the National Capital Region.
Magalong directed the city traffic team to draft an ordinance adopting the same scheme in the city in coordination with Councilor Benny Bomogao, chair of the city council committee on public utilities, transportation and traffic legislation.
He said the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has urged all local government units to implement a similar policy.
The single ticketing system aims to harmonize existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement as well as establish an effective transport and traffic management system in Metro Manila including the imposition of uniform fines for violators.
In February, the Metro Manila Council adopted the system by establishing the Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023.
The pilot implementation of the policy covered the cities of Caloocan, Manila, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Quezon City, San Juan and Valenzuela.
DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. is reportedly planning to push for the system’s adoption nationwide.
