3 hurt as fire hits Makati

MANILA, Philippines — Tragedy struck a residential area in Makati early yesterday morning as a fire razed houses in Barangay Comembo, destroying property estimated at P6 million and leaving three persons injured.

In a report, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze broke out at past 4 a.m. and reached the second alarm before 5 a.m.

The fire was contained after nearly two hours.

Senior Fire Officer 4 Jaime Macababayao told ABS-CBN that an eight-year-old boy suffered second-degree burns as he ran for his life.

Two residents aged 63 and 43 were injured in the fire and were taken to a hospital for treatment.

The BFP said the fire may have started in a house whose occupants were on vacation and had left a light on.

The flames spread rapidly to nearby houses.

Arson probers said they have yet to establish what caused the fire.

Authorities asked the public to exercise caution and ensure that all appliances are unplugged before leaving their homes.

March is considered Fire Prevention Month.
