Woman caught posing as PNP chief’s kin
MANILA, Philippines — A woman who is wanted for soliciting money using the Facebook account of a relative of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. was arrested in Quezon City on Thursday night.
Toni Rose Obispo, 30, was apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) in Barangay Sta. Monica at around 6:15 p.m.
Capt. Michael Bernardo, who heads the ACG’s Quezon City district anti-cybercrime team, said they served a warrant of arrest against Obispo for violating Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
The arrest warrant was issued by Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 90 Judge Maria Zoraida Tuazon, who set bail at P72,000.
Obispo’s boyfriend and alleged accomplice, Renz Denver Sario, was arrested last November in an entrapment operation at a money remittance outlet in Barangay Gulod.
The arrests were based on the complaint of Azurin’s relative, who told police her Facebook account was hacked and used to solicit money from her friends and family.
