Zamboanga fire leaves 300 families homeless

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Around 300 families were rendered homeless in a fire that hit a residential area in Purok 2, Barangay Recodo in this city yesterday.

More than 100 houses, including the residence of barangay chairman Wahab Ibba, were destroyed in the fire. No one was reported hurt.

Ibba said initial reports showed the fire originated from the kitchen of the house owned by a certain Hakim. The fire spread quickly because nearby houses were made of light materials.

The Bureau of Fire Protection declared the fire out after two hours. The cost of the damage has yet to be determined.

Mayor John Dalipe assured residents of relief assistance and temporary shelter for the affected families.
