Quezon City government, PNP ink deal

Elizabeth Marcelo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government’s People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine National Police to avoid conflict in terms of jurisdiction in the investigation of cases of abuse by PNP personnel.

The agreement was signed by PLEB executive officer Rafael Calinisan and PNP Internal Affairs Service inspector general Alfegar Triambulo at city hall.

Mayor Joy Belmonte, National Capital Region Police Office director Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad and Quezon City Police District chief Brig. Gen. Remus Medina attended the event.

The city government said the agreement aims to avoid conflict between the PNP-IAS and the PLEB with respect to jurisdiction over cases of police abuse.

Created under Republic Act 6975, the PLEB can summarily dismiss, suspend and reprimand abusive police officers.

“In Quezon City, we make sure that all systems are in place so the residents will feel safe in their homes. We commend the PLEB for being an effective watchdog against abusive police personnel and serving as partners of the men in uniform toward nation-building,” Belmonte said.
