2 Makati employees charged for stealing impounded motorbike

MANILA, Philippines — Two Makati City government employees were charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for allegedly stealing an impounded motorcycle.

In a statement, the NBI said malversation and carjacking charges were filed before the Office of the Ombudsman against Anselmo Atienza, former officer-in-charge of the Impounding Unit and now assigned to the Public Safety Department.

Meanwhile, charges of obstruction of justice were filed against Reynaldo Ponce from the General Services Department.

The charges stemmed from a complaint from the owner of the Honda big bike that went missing.

The NBI served a search warrant on Atienza’s residence in San Luis, Batangas and found the missing motorcycle.

Atienza, in his defense, said he bought the motorcycle from a junk shop that won the bid for the vehicle. But the NBI found that the motorcycle was not among the items for public auction.

The NBI also found that the delivery receipt for the motorcycle was “fraudulently obtained and falsified.”

Meanwhile, Ponce allegedly forced the junk shop to produce the fake delivery receipt.

Ponce was also sued for obstruction of justice for “knowingly and willfully” obstructing, impeding, frustrating or delaying “the apprehension of suspects and the investigation of a crime,” the NBI said.
