MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday denied allegations that an MMDA official has been serving as a protector of operators of colorum vehicles at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

In an interview on dzBB, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes said they received reports that some drivers and conductors of public utility vehicles (PUVs) were using the name of the official every time they were apprehended.

Artes said that based on their investigation, the allegation was not true.

“Actually, the MMDA official launched an operation, which resulted in the impounding of more than 20 buses and PUVs,” Artes said. “The name of the official was just being used by drivers.”

On Saturday, MMDA personnel impounded 44 buses and PUVs for illegally operating at the PITX.

The MMDA’s Task Force Special Operations and Anti-Colorum Unit headed by Edison Nebrija are continuously monitoring roads in the metropolis to stop the operations of colorum vehicles, Artes said.
