2 oil tankers in flyover mishaps

MANILA, Philippines — Two oil tankers figured in separate accidents along the EDSA-Ortigas flyover in Quezon City yesterday.

The first accident occurred at around 4:51 a.m. when a tanker rammed into several concrete barriers at the southbound lane of the flyover, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said in a post on Twitter.

The vehicle came from Bataan province and was headed to Parañaque City.

At around 6:09 a.m., another oil tanker, this time from Batangas bound for Quezon City, ran over concrete and plastic barriers at the flyover’s northbound lane.

MMDA traffic chief Edison Nebrija, in a video on Facebook, said both drivers claimed they fell asleep after driving for several hours.

There were no casualties during the two accidents. The two tankers were removed by MMDA personnel after several hours.

The accidents snarled traffic on both sides of EDSA.
