Rescued eagle released in Aurora

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — A rescued Philippine Eagle was released in the forests in Baler, Aurora recently.

The serpent eagle was sick when it was found by Ryan Casim in their backyard in Barangay Florida, Maria Aurora town.

Casim turned over the eagle to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Luzon, which nursed the bird back to health, according to Paquito Moreno Jr., DENR regional executive director.

The eagle was released at the Dibalo Pingit Zabali Malayat Watershed Forest Reserve in Sitio Dipanamianan, Barangay Pingit.

Moreno said the presence of the raptor indicated that the forests in Central Luzon, particularly in Aurora, is healthy.

“We encourage the public to remain vigilant in reporting any illegal trade and online sale of wildlife. Poachers threaten our biodiversity and environment,” Moreno said.

He said that sightings and turnover of wildlife as well as other concerns on environmental violation should be reported to the DENR.
