MANILA, Philippines — A radio commentator running for councilor was gunned down in Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat yesterday. According to a police report, Jaynard Angeles, 35, was in a car repair shop in Barangay New Carmen when he was shot at around 10 a.m.
Initial investigation showed Angeles was inspecting the engine of his Hyundai van when two men approached and shot him several times. He died at the scene.
The assailants fled on a motorcycle.
Angeles was running for councilor of Lambayong town under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas. He previously ran for councilman of Barangay EJC Montilla in Tacurong.
”A report by dxDN 103.3 Max FM Midsayap described Angeles as a hard-hitting commentator for the ‘Tinig ng Bayan’ program on Radyo ni Juan Tacurong, where he was a broadcaster for more than 10 years,” the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said.
Angeles was former manager of Radyo Bandera Tacurong and Radyo ni Juan Tacurong.
Angeles reportedly resigned from Radyo ni Juan Tacurong to run as councilor.
In December 2019, Abdul Kadir Caballer, station manager of Radyo ni Juan, died a month after he was shot also by unidentified men.
